A message from Linda Siegle, Joint Chief Executive

There has never been a better time for the Learning to Learn agenda. As the articles in this edition show, it's everywhere! Concepts such as personalised learning; the development of teachers as 'lead learners' and researchers and collaboration in the classroom as well as with external partners are all becoming mainstream. There is, however, a way to go before all schools are able to implement them.

Our final report on Phase 3 of our L2L project is currently being drafted by our participating schools and the Newcastle University research team and is due to be published in March 2007. While our project schools have a year's 'breather' to write up and plan for the future, we are putting together the plan for Phase 4 and publishing our latest 'how to do it' book in the Learning to Learn for Life series. This time it covers Key Stage 2.

Over the years our Newsletter readers have asked for more opportunities to learn from our action research programme and we have looked for ways of supporting teachers and schools in addition those actively engaged in the project. As a result of feedback we have received from you, we are proposing to launch a series of support services to spread the Learning to Learn word more widely and to offer practical ways in which more teachers and schools can benefit from our experience in this field. We are planning:

  • A National Learning to Learn Network - with a supporting website dedicated to providing frequently updated advice and guidance for practitioners.
  • The Support Our Schools (SOS) Programme - to include a L2L 'health check', INSET provision and ongoing consultancy support for schools.
  • A series of Regional L2L Seminars - bringing a L2L 'how to do it' roadshow to a venue near you.

Look out for e-shots with news of these new services as they come on-stream or contact Rebecca Goodbourn for more information of when we plan to launch them.
