Changes to the Learning to Learn Team

Congratulations to Steve Higgins for his recent appointment as Professor at the University of Durham. We are delighted that Steve will continue to work with the learning to learn project along with the Newcastle team.

Learning to Learn Phase 3

After 3 years of hard work we are coming to the end of Phase 3 of the Learning to Learn in Schools Project. The final round of case studies are due this autumn with the final report being available in March 2007.

We would like to thank all those who have been involved in the project (there isn't space here to name each and everyone) for the commitment and enthusiasm they have shown throughout the 3 years.

Learning to Learn Phase 4

As Phase 3 is ending, Phase 4 is taking shape. Phase 3 has raised many new questions and highlighted new areas of interest to investigate, so the Campaign for Learning and the Universities of Durham and Newcastle have decided to develop a fourth phase to explore them further.

It is also interesting to note that the 'About Learning' Working Group (Demos) commissioned by the DFES recommended in 2005 that:

'More development and research (D&R) funds should be invested in educational practices that develop students as effective learners and especially as people with the capacity to become independent learners. Moreover, schools and colleges already engaged in relevant D&R such as the Campaign for Learning or Networked Learning Communities should become the sites for the next stage in a more systematic D&R programme.'

We believe that Phase 4 will be a step in the right direction for this.
