Hello and welcome to Issue 16 of the National Learning to Learn Action Research Project Newsletter.

We are delighted that this is the first extended newsletter covering Learning to Learn in both schools and FE. This follows the establishment of an FE strand in the National Learning to Learn project, running parallel to and linking with the schools strand.

A special welcome to colleagues from the project's first two Colleges, Northumberland and Lewisham, who have recently survived their initiation, attending a highly successful residential conference with schools colleagues already involved in Phase Four of the project. Welcome too to readers from other Colleges planning to take part, and those dipping a toe in the water to find out what this project is all about! For someone like me who started in schools and worked her way through into FE and adult education, Learning to Learn principles are essentially about good adult education practice transferred to work with younger learners, which are just as effective whether you're 5 or 55 - but with a body of research and evidence to demonstrate how and why this works so well. For examples of how well this works in schools, see the new set of case studies from Phase 4 schools on our website. And to find out more about our FE project, why not come along to our inaugural Learning to Learn in FE conference on 17th March, to hear Professor Frank Coffield speak and debate the issues? I look forward to seeing you there!

And finally, the Campaign for Learning has recently launched a Friends Scheme as a way partner organisations and individual supporters can show their commitment to maintaining an independent voice for learners of all ages, support us in meeting our mission to put learning at the heart of social inclusion at a time when this has never been more needed - and incidentally, as everyone's budgets get tighter, obtain a not-to-be-sneezed-at 10% discount on the price of all our events! For more information on becoming a Friend of the Campaign for Learning click here, or contact Becky Rae on 01925 426096 or brae@cflearning.org.uk.

Wishing you a successful term of Learning to Learn,
Tricia
