Campaign for Learning Policy Seminars

New directions in 11-19 education and skills: Foundation specialist schools - opportunities and issues
15 September 2005, EEF, Central London

Over the next 12 months the Campaign for Learning will be examining new directions in 11-19 education and skills policy. Future themes include the future of Connexions, the implications of the Foster review on 14-19 providers and increasing participation and achievement by 19.

This first seminar attempts to assess the implications of independent foundation specialist schools on 11-19 education and skills policy including the work of Local Authorities, Local LSCs and Children's Trusts. Debating the issues will be Cyril Taylor, chair, Specialist Schools Trust, Dave Wilcox, chair, LGIU, Elaine Bowker, executive director, Merseyside LSC and Kevin Crompton, chair, Association of Directors of Education and Children's Services. Practitioners, local and national policymakers, education and voluntary sector professionals will have an opportunity to discuss the links between the government's current and proposed policies and consider the issues for creating an education and skills system responsive to all 11-19 year olds.
