A New Era for Careers Education and Guidance: where next? Masterclass
This one-day masterclass, delivered by Dr Deirdre Hughes, Associate Fellow, Warwick Institute for Employment Research, will provide participants with an overview of EU and national careers policies, research and practice, consider the implications of a market-led approach and assess how careers service design and delivery is likely to evolve in the future. The session will cover policy formation and evidence-based findings, the professionalization of the careers workforce, the use of ICT in careers practice and employability in fast changing and turbulent labour markets.
In particular the master class will provide delegates with an understanding of the following topics:
-
Contemporary policies in careers service design and delivery – how are government policies impacting on practice?
-
Careers educators and professionals at work – what progress is being made to build a stronger careers profession in light of the demise of local Connexions services?
-
The use of ICT in careers practice – how can quality services and products be delivered and assured in an unregulated market?
-
The new National Careers Service and progress to date – where next?
-
Employability – what does this really mean and should this be reconceptualised given fast changing labour markets?
The session will also consider the implications of the Education Bill given its passage through the House of Lords and the potential for building upon the work of the Campaign for Learning and the CREATE: UK-wide Campaign for Careers.
