Discover What Dads Can Do
Dads and/or male carers are often an under represented group at Family Learning events. Reasons for this can vary from work commitments to unequal access to resources. It is increasingly important for organisations to encourage fathers/ male carers to use their services because of changes in legislation – such as increased paternity leave and promotion of gender quality.
Key points to remember when attracting fathers are:
-
Get some information on your target audience
Use promotional materials that will reach men - a recent Campaign for Learning project used beermats!
Find out what they want:what types of activities would they attend? Remember to think outside the box - male does not always equal football!
-
Make sure your venue is welcoming to fathers/ male carers - think about the types of images, food and arrangements that might appeal to men.
