What is Learning at Work (LAW) Day?
Learning at Work (LAW) Day is an annual awareness campaign organised by the Campaign for Learning (CfL) since 1999. LAW Day promotes and supports workplace learning events across the country. It aims to draw attention to the importance of workplace learning and skills. It encourages people to offer learning to all employees especially to those that may not participate in current learning opportunities. LAW Day is part of Adult Learners' Week.
The Campaign for Learning believes that it is more important than ever that workplaces and individuals maintain and develop their skills levels and motivation to learn in order to adapt and thrive in the economic downturn. Each year, thousands of organisations take part in LAW Day and stage fun and business-related learning activities that promote learning, provide a catalyst for change and support their employees to learn new skills that they can put into action at work and beyond. By getting involved in the biggest annual celebration of workplace learning you could uncover new skills, build new partnerships and help reach your business goals - all at the same time!
When is it?
LAW Day takes place on17 May 2012. This year’s theme is Learning for Growth The theme highlights how learning and development supports individuals and organisations to proactively deal with change, plan for the future and develop new ways of working and living that to reach their goals.
Why take part?
LAW Day is the perfect platform for promoting and stimulating workplace learning and skills. LAW Day events are a non-threatening way of encouraging individuals reluctant or resistant to learning into exploring 'what's on offer'. They can help overcome any barriers or negative perceptions employees might have about learning and get people excited about their own development. LAW Day is also a great way to launch new approaches to learning as well as celebrate the learning and development that takes place in organisations all year round - for example as a platform for award ceremonies and recognition for learners' achievements.
Who can take part?
You can take part in LAW Day as a learner, workplace, learning provider or ULR. Last year, thousands of organisations took part including large corporations, SMEs, public sector organisations and government departments. What can the Campaign for Learning offer?
The LAW Day team provides advice and guidance for organisations wishing to run Learning at Work Day, including online and printed resources. We can also offer free PR support and use LAW Day to promote your organisation under the umbrella of a national campaign.
How much will it cost?
It’s free to register and access our online resources. We also partnered with organisations that go into workplaces and offer free sessions -from language lessons in London to life saving skills in Sheffield. Most organisers spend an average of £100 to organise their activities.

Learning at Work Day 2012
This year we will be focussing on the theme Learning for Growth. On the themes page we will be uploading activity ideas linked to the theme from inter-departmental challenges to job swaps. We will also have news, special offers and competitions for anyone registering to take part in Learning at Work Day.
