The Learning to Learn for Life publications are designed for everyone interested in developing better schools and lifelong learners. The books are based on Phase 3 of the Campaign for Learning's Learning to Learn in Schools Action Research Project, which examined how to help pupils learn most effectively and so give each one the best chance to achieve his or her full potential. Phase 3 developed the outcomes of Phases 1 and 2 of the project, which have previously been published in Teaching pupils how to learn and Creating a learning to learn school.

The books includes:

Creating a Learning to Learn School

Toby Greany and Jill Rodd

Creating a learning to learn school

Creating a Learning to Learn School is a book for heads, senior managers and teachers interested in developing better schools, classrooms and learners. It is based on two years of ground-breaking research in 25 schools by over 100 teachers and many thousands of pupils. The research explored a variety of approaches to teaching pupils how they learn and evaluated the impact on standards, pupil motivation and teacher morale.

Creating a Learning to Learn School sets out:

Teaching pupils how to learn

Bill Lucas, Toby Greany, Jill Rodd and Ray Wicks

Teaching pupils how to learn

This publication combines the research findings from the first year of the Campaign for Learning co-ordinated Learning to Learn in Schools action research project with:

  • practical case studies of how some of the schools implemented Learning to Learn
  • a fascinating summary of how the thinking behind the project evolved
  • innovative 'discussion mats' for use by teachers wanting to introduce this thinking into their schools
